A Ministry of Presence

Law Enforcement Chaplain

Since January 2021 I have served as a law enforcement chaplain in Sonora, California. I’ve been privileged to serve the men and women of our local police department, as well as first responders from more than half a dozen other agencies. For most of that time I’ve done so while working a full-time job, which has meant being very reactive: responding to callouts when I can, consoling community members over the phone when I can’t leave work, and visiting the station or riding along with officers in the evenings or on weekends.

I believe the time has come for me to take on chaplaincy full-time.

Law enforcement chaplains provide spiritual and emotional support to officers, employees, and citizens that they contact. It is a ministry of presence that I’ve learned is most effective when I can regularly ride-along with officers, spend time at the station, and build trusted relationships through frequent, ongoing conversations.

For me to do this full-time, or even nearly so, would mean taking a bold step: leaving a good, well-paying, and secure full-time job. And to do that would take a team of people not only praying for and encouraging me but also supporting me financially.

I’m grateful to have a small cadre already. The backbone of that team is WIXIM Ministries, Inc., led by my long-time friend and mentor, Chuck Price. Based in San Diego, WIXIM has been providing chaplains, training, and peer support assistance for agencies throughout California for nearly 25 years. In addition, as a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, all donations qualify as tax deductible.

Would you consider joining my team?
